Living with a chronic illness is hard. Chances are your brain is foggy, you are fatigued and tired of watching life from the sidelines.

Whether you struggle with Lyme & co, Crohn's disease, cancer, mast cell or other illness we know the losses acquired can be overwhelming and the threat of being sucked into the depressive vortex IS REAL.

Chronic illness has been a specialty area in our sister company, The Family Therapy Center of Northern Virginia for fifteen plus years. We also have trained yoga/body movement teachers to help deepen your mind body meditation experience.

What is the Meditation for Chronic Illness & Pain Class?

Your body has an innate ability to heal itself. Think back to the last time you cut your hand or stubbed your toe. Chances are a fancy innovation wasn't needed, because your body took over and did the healing for you.

A chronic illness isn't that easy. Our Meditation for Chronic Illness class will work with you as you train your mind and body to tolerate focussing on your body just enough to help calm it and reduce some of the pain you experience.

This class is designed to build upon the focus and attention span taught in our Mindful Meditation class as well as healing skills taught in our Soulful Meditation classes. Although taking these classes is not a requirement, it is offered as a possibility to help you gain confidence and sustained focus.

Take a look below at some of the thing you will be taught to do in a typical Meditation for Chronic Illness class.

What Will the 30 Minute "Meditation for Chronic Illness" Class Actually Look Like?

During this structured meditation, you will be guided to find opportunities of calm within your illness.

We will practice gentle self massage, chair or other easy stretches and breathing techniques to introduce relief into painful places.

And will look at building strength and resiliency IN YOU to enhance your healing path.

Those with cancer, Lyme, Lupus, POTS, Crohns, etc are among some of the diagnoses represented.

Look at How Our Meditation for  Chronic Illness Class Can Help You

  1. You will have the option of ranking your physical and emotional symptoms at the beginning and end of each class as well as your targeted symptom for that class period. The option to keep this in a binder/notebook will help you see your progress as you journey through the classes.
  2. You will be taught how to utilize your breath and how to scan your body for tension. We will borrow elements from the mind-body skills taught in our Mindful Meditation classes, teaching you how to reduce anxiety and tension and introduce calm.
  3. You will also be guided through the thoughts that impact healing but also bring out more stress and tension. You will be taught how to reframe these thoughts and use them to work FOR you and not against your health and healing.
  4. We will borrow elements from the healing skills taught in our Soulful Meditation classes, teaching you how to tap into your body' own healing powers. Here you will learn to use energy and your imagination to reduce pain and discomfort. Reiki may or not not be used in your class. You have the option to receive or deny Reiki and other healing energy modalities whenever they are presented.
  5. A teacher trained in gentle body movements may introduce light and easy movement to help move stagnant energies through your body. This is not the same as exercise and will always be optional. Not every class will involve movement, but many will.
  6. If you choose to purchase a Quarterly Meditation Box, you may be taught how to use many of the items from that box during some of these classes as well as others; this is at the discretion of your teacher and apparent tone of the class. Stones, medicinal teas, essential oils (if you are not too sensitive to the scent), and cleansing tools may be a part of the curriculum. Purchasing a box is absolutely not required, but might make the process more fun.
