Treating trauma in teens and adults can be an overwhelming experience.
When to ask questions, making sure you are helping and not harming, keeping clients calm while allowing triggers to be present...
There is SO much happening in trauma informed sessions, that many play therapists often feel imposter syndrome and worry that they might not know enough to really be helpful.
Play Therapy has many amazing tools that can be adjusted and altered to fit teens and adults beautifully. It all boils down to regulation and brain integration.
In this training we will review Poly Vagal theory and how it helps the client stay calm during difficult sessions.
Guiding clients through creative right brain/low brain activities can help initiate a feeling of safety while exploring heavier therapeutic material.
Be Able to Demonstrate Creative Play Therapy Prompts With Your Teen & Adult Clients:
1. Step by step sensory drawing series to help clients tell their story and calm the limbic system
2. The use of various therapeutic cards to help clients discuss difficult topics
3. Mingling sand tray miniatures into other right brain/low brain prompts
4. Emotions abstract drawing
5. Right brain left brain quiz & art prompt: Great for group therapy with teens
